Time Tip 32 – This Picture Will Make You Smile – Again

“The life you have left is a gift. Cherish it. Enjoy it now, to the fullest. Do what matters, now.” – Leo Babauta

The Value of What is Important

I know many of you will have seen this ‘Tip’ already but I think it’s worth reading again – it’s one of my favourites.

The photo was taken while we were on holiday in the Lake District in September. In the middle of the picture is our 14 month old border collie Ziva. It had been a great day and we were out for a walk. By the way – that’s my oldest son Peter on the left and Matthew my youngest son took the prize winning photo.

Matthew had slipped during the walk and later on in the evening we found out that he had broken his arm – so he did well taking the picture. The 90 mile round trip to a hospital at 1.30am is another story.

In my last article, I said that sometimes I get to the end of a day – and I feel – ‘that was a good day’. This was one of those days! Apart from the broken arm!

Every time I look at the photo – I just have to smile – and so does everyone else who looks at it. Other people smile because it is a great and engaging photo – but I smile because it is more than that to me – it is about doing what is truly important to me and being fully present in the moment to enjoy it.

When we do what is truly important to us we stop our lives from being run by the ‘Tyranny of the Urgent’.

We live more by The Compass and less by The Clock.

The Paradigms of Important versus Urgent

A paradigm is how we see the world – it’s our mind-set. It’s like a map – it is not the territory – it describes the territory.

The way we see the world (our paradigms) lead to what we do (our attitudes and behaviours) – and what we do leads to the results we get in our lives.

Most of us are addicted or driven by the Tyranny of the Urgent. We might be efficient, effective and productive – we might be all over the place – but we rarely find the time to do what is really important to us.

The important things in life are aligned with who we are and what we are meant to do – they give meaning to our lives, they energise us – they make each day worthwhile – they make ‘The Good Days’.

How To Get More of The Good Days

If you want to find out more about how to have more of those good days – about how to get away from the Urgent and focus more on the Important – then please come and join me on my Do It Today – Do It Now Workshops on Wednesday 10 February 2016 and Wednesday 9 March 2016.

They are run in the morning and in the 4 week gap you will be ‘encouraged’ by me to take actions and create new behaviors that will change the way you see the world and how you manage your time.

Whether you are in business, if you are an employee, or you just want to really learn how to manage your time – these workshops are for you.

They will definitely be a game changer!

Have a great week.
